Renovation of Emergency Electrical Systems 

In a facility that conducts research on some of the most infectious diseases, stable emergency power is critical. Employee movement, work areas, and outages required extensive coordination with the university and facility staff to ensure safety and security. Despite these challenges, Claypool Electric maintained the schedule to install a quality product on time and in budget.  

Multiple shutdowns were required during this project. Scope included shutdown of the unit substation to install two new 800A circuit breakers, shutdown to connect a temporary generator while modifications of the existing generators took place, and multiple shutdowns to incorporate the generator modifications andparalleling switchgear in the emergency distribution system. All outages were extensively coordinated with OSU and most were completed in less than the scheduled outage time. 

Project Highlights:
- New 6000 Ampere Paralleling Switchgear
- New control function for paralleling and load shedding
- 2500 ampere bus duct installed vertically up to 10 stories for a ground-based temporary generator
- System re-circulating to balance load demand
